Biofuel plant for Hässleholm Miljö AB »
KMW Energi AB has received an order to construct a boiler plant for the production of heat.

Start-up of Strängnäs Energi’s cogeneration plant

Thursday, January 15, 2009: The municipality of Strängnäs, situated 80 km west of Stockholm, Sweden, has made its biggest clean-tech investment so far. Strängnäs Energi’s new cogeneration plant is fuelled with woodchips and recycled wood.

The start-up procedure at Strängnäs Energi’s (SEVAB’s) new cogeneration plant is coming to a close. The plant has been delivering heat to the municipality’s district heating system since the end of October 2008, and steam to the industry since mid-December. The plant has been delivering electricity and heat continually since December 22. Test operation started on January 12 and hand-over is planned in March.

KMW Energi and its subcontractors have delivered the turbine system including auxiliary system, district heating condenser, steam system and steam distribution, as well as the control system. The condensing turbine with extraction has been produced by Fincantieri, Italy. This plant concept was chosen for its high efficiency and for its robust construction with considerable flexibility. It has proven to be very suitable for the load variations that normally occur when steam is transmitted to the industry.

The new cogeneration plant is Strängnäs’ biggest clean-tech investment so far. The plant will provide baseload to the municipality’s district heating system, steam to the industry situated nearby and a considerable part of the electricity needed in the town. The plant’s capacity amounts to 36.5 MW heat to the district heating system, of which 8.9 MW can be delivered as electricity to the grid. Further, a flue-gas condenser has been installed, which can increase the heat delivery even more. The plant is fuelled with woodchips and recycled wood.
